Google serp update

Full Member joined:Mar 2, posts: votes: I'm getting a very huge amount of traffic coming in from all over the world right now. It's been happening since morning. I don't know if my G Real-Time has gone crazy or if it's actually happening. Is anyone else seeing something bizarre today? Senior Member joined:Apr 15, posts votes: Is it the time of the year for zombies?

Always zombie time mos! Happy New Year! Looks to be shut down again. Must have rebooted or reset the AI again. We all know this thing is evolving, right? When does it stop? Not me I have never seen anything like it before in my 17 years. All I can think is it must be a penalty of some sort as my ranking has been dropping and dropping this month My main site is 9 years old and I have never seen a massive flow of traffic for several hours and it continues They're not zombies, as AdSense conversions are pretty high.

I don't believe in penalty or recovery right now. But something new and big is happening. Look at my cloudflare No surge here at all I have to block all visits from China during those spikes. New User from US joined:Sept 24, posts votes: Relatively flat day, which follows another flat day and flat weeks. Conversions from Google are few and far between with most converting search traffic coming from Bing.

With spikes like you are describing, often it's the result of an absence of Google's clutter boxes which temporarily allows a 1- 3 to actually appear above the fold and get traffic like it used to years ago. In my experience this is very short lived, but hoping for the best for you. Would be a great way to start the New Year! Traffic seems regular. Since the majority of this site is informational, there aren't any direct conversions, but we'll see what affiliates have to say in the next few days or weeks.

This is still far from what it should be. Until I see a huge increase lasting for a couple of weeks at least, I'll remain reserved of this returned traffic. I published a lot of quality content, so I'm hopeful of a lot of quality traffic, including the traffic that I lost this month which I'm hoping will come back.

AdSense with high conversion. USA and Europe is the majority. This started this morning. As usual, it never lasts longer than 1 hour. Today it's been going on for the whole day. I hope it stays that way. BigKat - Yes, I won top positions on several terms. This usually appears for 1 hour when it happens. Today it spans all day. I hope this is permanent. If it wasn't an update, my site finally surpassed my competitors Just wanted to share some hope, however short-lived it may be..

This is exactly how every day was for 10 years. Typically see this go right up to April 1st, where they will drop another April Fools joke on us. It's a Google tradition. Today I see so much junk traffic it feels like buyers forgot Google exits all started they shopping at Amazon or something! I normally wait it out a bit with Google Updates before digging in but as a test, I just checked a keyword search in Google Search Console that used to send me some traffic and now it's gone: a forum page on that same topic with a single small comment referring my page with a link nofollow to it is ranking before mine.

It really feels like a site-wide penalty, or an experiment. Talk about kicking someone when they're down. Cyril TechWebsites. Junior Member joined:Feb 11, posts votes: My view to situation: I've lost traffic from one of my top-traffic keywords. After update I decided to try to update the dropped article with the latest information.

So the situation before the update was like: 1 spot - official Microsoft page on this topic, and then 2 spot - my website. My best author took a look at article that outperformed me when comparing with the article on my website that faced drop. Here is the answer from my author: "In the article you've sent the activation is described with using hacked software and illegal method pirate software.

I can do the same, but it's illegal method. The article you have on the webiste right now is totally full, I can't find anything I can add". So, as I see - I can't do nothing. I don't know the reasons, but right now algo decided that post with pirate methods is better than legal.

Thanks God, Google didn't decided yet that Microsoft official guides are bad too It's the next step as I understand? I just can't do nothing with that. Junior Member joined:May 25, posts votes: Some of my keywords are rising back to the top again.

Traffic is going up again too. Could be just their daily updates or maybe it hasn't fully rolled out yet. Preferred Member joined:Dec 7, posts votes: Yeah, I'm noticing some changes too, I think. Senior Member from IN joined:Apr 30, posts votes: Unfortunately, good sites like Seroundtable. Senior Member from US joined:Feb 3, posts votes: Google must be grooming Pinterest for acquisition.

New User joined:May 9, posts votes: More people might actually be looking for the illegal guide and therefore Google bots might see a much higher CTR, return visits and time spent on the other site site, so it decides to favour the illegal guide instead of his guide.

Another example is from one of my own sites. It is ranking for a search term related to online games for kids in a specific category. However, more people searching for the same keyword might actually be interested in multiple different categories of content online games, PC games, sports games on TV, or fun activities etc.

Google might have given much more importance to CTR and higher relativity to the search intend. But this still doesn't explain why there are so many results leading to suspicious sites etc. This might have been caused by an overreaction to the problem of Coronavirus and unrelated sites ranking for some hygiene terms etc.

I still think this will be at least partially reverted in the future. The difference is very slim, though, with desktop fluctuations being lower by a mere 0. During the first two days after the update, SERPs were pretty calm, with average volatility being at a 4. However, things started moving faster on June Days after the latest update, almost all sectors were within the red zone, which implies that the core algo update affected almost all industries. This pattern is consistent across sites that experienced both the majority of position spikes and drops.

Having analyzed the top post-update winners and losers, we were also able to pinpoint the industries that saw the biggest position gains and losses. And they are all related to finding local businesses or exploring the local infrastructure. With the US economy almost completely reopened now, the latest Google core update reflects this pattern.

In this thread, a reminder of when and why we give specific guidance about particular updates…. According to them, there is nothing that is out of the ordinary in this update. These are just regular update which was targeted towards identifying better content and improved the ranking algorithm.

They have provided the content quality recommendations on their Webmaster blog , which is very generic and broad. There is no specific guideline or impacted areas which can give an idea on how to recover from the Nov SERP update.

But, if you go through the link mentioned above by Google, you will see that many of their suggestions are towards improving the content quality and relevancy. The problem, with this update there are many complains of ranking spam or low-quality content on the web.

If you look at the buzz around black hat SEO forums, people have gained rankings. This is a big concern since Google is asking everyone to follow the quality content guidelines and then end up ranking spam or low-quality content.

But, anyone who has done SEO for some time, they know how these things are. So, what can we do? This is a good time to take a step back and do an SEO audit for your blog. Make sure the site is good on the technical SEO front. If you have lost traffic during the Nov SERP update, the first action should be analyzing the articles which have lost most traffic. You would be using one or the other analytics tool on your blogs like Google Analytics or JetPack.

Use that to generate the traffic report based on a per article basis and compare it with a similar report for this month. Once you have that, you know the articles which have lost most of the traffic and needs some work.

The only thing to do at this time is to revisit those articles and see if there is anything to improve. The content should represent the search query intent which was bringing the traffic. If you think anything could be done to improve the content, go ahead and make the changes. Schema Markup helps in the ability of the article to stand out in this new search result page. If you have not started to look for adding schema markups to your pages, this is the high time when you should start exploring.
